Evaluation

My FMP was targeted at 13-21 year olds and its purpose was to promote the song through telling a story.

Write a written response of how successful your final idea was

Discuss the suitability of your final project for its intended purpose. Did it really work? What aspects of it needed more work?

I believe my FMP worked out better than I expected. However, there is still sections that are not as successful as the rest but, I know how to change it in the future, in order to change it in the future I need to make sure my focus is correct.
My intended purpose of my project was to send a message over about peer pressure as my main back story was that the girl playing the game was being pressured into playing Russian roulette. However, I believe that my purpose did not come across as successfully as I had liked it to.
If I was to do it again I would make sure I brought across the 'Pressurising' feel by including a message saying something pressuring such as 'If you don't do it I'll tell people you're deepest secret"
After I had finished my FMP I went and got some feedback on it.

TONY- Add markers, pace the clips with the music

LUKE- Cut before the church, Add MTV lower third

ANN-MARIE- Very good

MATTY- Really good

SCOTT- More cutaways if you can. Adjust black outline. I like the shadow. Performance is amazing!. Check focus

JUSTIN- It works, black and white is good. Repetitive (simple) slow (cutaways) out of focus and is hard to watch due to that. Have close up shots, sort contrast out

PAUL- Focus and the shots in the studio need sorting (table)

HAYLEY- Editing was good black and white looks good, pacing is good

HANNAH- Editing is good, It gave me chills

ADRIANA- Love the song, love the heartbeat effect at the start, Gave me goosebumps.
OSCAR- Its good, I like the black and white. Different shot types are good.

MAX- The drum (quick clips) and church scene is really good. Photo montage is cool Certain clips are out of focus but it is still good

HELEN- Really good, just a little fuzzy

IRENE- Very Dark. black and white works well with the piece. Good expressions. Pace was good. Well shot

PATRICK- Like the black and white. Like the photo montage

JASON- Very good, packs an emotional punch

TALITHA- Good, like the photo montage, black and white works

DAWN- Really enjoyed it, Performance was good. Black and white is good it helps take the focus off the background

FOXY- Why do you have the MTV logo? Focus is incorrect. Why is it monochrome? some shots are boring. Beginning middle and end is beautiful. Maybe could have established 'life' earlier on. Flashback is good. Edit and sync was good. More contrast less grey.

Write a written response of how successful this product was for your profiled target audience.

Discuss the suitability of your final project for the intended target audience through evaluating / discussing its impact and content.

From my FMP I can determine that my product worked with my target audience. For example. Max commented on how the drums (quick clips) and church scene was really good and how he liked the photo montage. Adriana commented on how she likes the heartbeat effect and the black and white. She also said that it gave her goosebumps. This implies that it worked with my target audience

What I am going to take from this feedback is to make sure with my next projects I am more in control with the focus and check the locations for example if I am filming in the studio make sure there is nothing in the background that could potentially ruin the shot.

The reason I chose to put it in black a white due to the fact some shots were over exposed and it helped bring the exposure down a lot.

Write a written response of how effective your time management was in the development and completion of the project

Discuss how you managed the different stages of the project and reflect on areas where the project went well / badly. Comment on how you put things right and reached the deadline. State how you could improve.

My time management when working on my project worked out really well as I had started in April and had already filmed half of my project, I then edited what footage I had then organised a date in May to film the rest and started the editing process straight away. However before filming in May somebody said that they were unavailable that date which struck some problems however, I did manage to find somebody to be in the project and luckily they were available. By starting early it allowed me time with post-production.

Evaluate how you used your research in developing the selected idea at the start of the project.

a) How you identified the correct Target Audience through found research.
I chose my target audience as 13-21 because at the age of 13 you have a more of an understanding of what is going on in the world as you are more mature, I had the target audience stop at the age of 21 as after then people tend to go out of that 'genre' of music.

b) How you related / made relevant all of the research to the Target Audience and your final idea
By watching Rihanna's music videos I noticed she is a big icon towards this age group and so is YouTube this helped with choosing my target audience.

c) How you Compared and contrasted different research found from different channels (5) and used them to support and develop the solution - and how this was effective in identifying the Target Audience.

Use the Triangle!
In my research I compared the following, how Rihanna is different in her music videos and in interviews.  When researching about Rihanna on TV i came across an Interview she did on the Ellen DeGeneres show. Rihanna does not come across 'dark' or 'Grungy'. She comes across very 'normal' she doesn't like brag about her fame, However she is not like that.

As an inspirational woman, Rihanna likes to keep things professional and very 'business like' as she as a younger audience. However people do not expect to see her like this they expect her to be a lot more cocky and someone who brags about their fame.

Evaluate how you used your research in progressing the idea to create the final product.

a) The journey you took, evaluating what you did, reflecting on what decisions you made to create the product.

When researching I came across a couple of music videos which helped me move my project along
I looked at a couple of music videos such as Rihanna Russian Roulette and Billie Eilish Bury A Friend. These helped me decide on location, style etc. I mainly took inspiration with 'Russian Roulette' as that was the song I was using for my project.

b) Compare the processes you selected to progress the project in stages. Reflect on whether they were effective. Talk about Changes you made based on new research, changes in target audience etc.

Throughout my project my target audience never changed as I already had a rough idea on what my target audience would be. After research, I found out that I had chosen the right target audience as I had asked a handful of people through out different ages mainly within the target audience though.

c) Discuss how you used research channels to build up information to make your idea work for your Target Audience
After researching I found out that Rihanna is quite 'Dark' and 'grungy' and that is what her fans like so I tried to make my project 'dark' and 'grungy'. After I showed people my project they told me they loved the black and white effect as it helps give off the impression its giving. This worked successfully as Rihanna's video was not in black and white but, was very dark in contrast.

Evaluate the different media skills and knowledge and understandings you utilised to create this project outcome
.
a) What you did to PREPARE for using Media methods to make your project outcome.
To prepare for my project I watched different music videos, made notes, Did test shots. Something that did not work out was that I could not find anybody to get permission to film inside the church, I came around this by just filmed the outside and it still worked

b) What you used in Production (Cameras, Studio etc)
Camera: Panasonic AG-HMC 151
When looking back on my footage I noticed some clips were out of focus. To overcome this next time I will make sure they are in focus before I start filming

tripod (legs)- Libec
lighting- Redheads.
With the lights I feel as if I didn't use enough as the silhouette at the end wasn't as obvious as I wanted it to be. However  they did bring out the light I wanted which made the black and white look better than if I had no lights

c) What you used in Post-Production (Software)
I used premier pro and photo shop which both worked very well.

Media Skills. Indicate how effectively used a wide range of skills (SW, HW) to create your final project. Indicate areas that you feel you need more understanding of.

(Media Skills: Using a camera, using software etc)

a) How well did you use PREPARED MATERIALS for using Media methods to make your project outcome?
I personally think my planning went okay except when I was needing to film in the studio and somebody cancelled on me however I overcame this by finding somebody else who I knew would not cancel on me. We decided a date which was going to be the following week and I managed to get all my footage.

b) How well did you use Production (Cameras, Studio etc)?

I asked somebody else to film my project however one of the people operating the camera needed help as they wasn't to sure how it really worked. We overcame this by asking a lecturer to help him with the basics.
When using the studio it achieved however if I was to use it again I would make sure the background was clear so nothing was able to distract the viewer.

c) How well did you use Post-Production (Software)?
I used premier pro and photo shop I believe I used both these software's well.
However, I did need a little help when removing a background and making an image a png on photo shop. I did not really need any help when using premier-pro.

Quality of final product. Indicate how well presented your final product was. Indicate areas that you feel you needed more input to improve the presentation quality and relevance of your final product.

a) Did it work for the Target Audience / user? Relate this to the research and the final idea + perhaps comment on actual feedback from target people!

Yes my project worked with my target audience. When I showed my project to my peers they enjoyed it and said it was really good.
here is some feedback I received   ADRIANA- Love the song, love the heartbeat effect at the start, Gave me goosebumps.

b) Did it answer the expected goals you set? Where could things have been done better.
It went better than expected as I didn't think people would enjoy it however, they did enjoy it! Things I could have done better is use more cutaways as it is a lot of just me.

c) Set a series of 5 targets that are IMPROVEMENTS that you feel are needed to improve the quality of your project.
  • Check the focus as some clips are blurry
  • Make sure the background is clear as in studio shots you can see the table and all the mess in the background
  • Check the exposure as some clips are very bright at times
  • Adding in sound effects so it adds more of a suspense
  • Played with the camera angles  such as close ups
